On May 14th, 2024, Johanna Chuchuy successfully completed her PhD by defending her thesis titled “Development and Implementation of Next-Generation Retina-on-Chip Platforms” at the University of Stuttgart. Johanna dedicated her research to developing a retina-on-chip system to meet the urgent need for advancements in basic research and the exploration of new treatment options in ophthalmology. By combining retina organoid technology with advanced microfabrication, she was able to create a range of platforms that incorporate the key components of the native retina. Additionally, she developed a light housing setup that allows for tissue stimulation under realistic conditions.
