On July 24th, 2024, Tengku Ibrahim Maulana successfully defended his doctoral dissertation „Microphysiological tumor-on-chip models recapitulating tumor-microenvironment interactions applicable for cell therapy testing“ at the Eberhard Karls University Tübingen.
Ibrahim dedicated his research to the assessment of the safety and efficiency of CAR-T in solid tumors and the tissue-specific interactions between breast cancer and white adipose tissue. He has established valuable human-relevant in vitro models that can accurately model the tumor microenvironment.
His Breast Cancer-on-Chip model with an integrated endothelial barrier enables the transmigration of perfused immune cells and their infiltration into the tumor. His model is capable of recapitulating key events of CAR-T cell performance, including extravasation and cytokine release. Moreover, Ibrahim’s model allows the integration of primary breast cancer organoids and can be used to study patient-specific CAR-T cell efficacy.
The µOrganoLab congratulates Ibra and wishes him all the best in his future endeavors!
Way to go Dr. Maulana!
