From June 22 to 24, 2026, part of our team travelled to Braga, Portugal, to attend the EUROoCS 2026 Annual Conference, which brought together researchers, companies, and stakeholders from across the Organ-on-Chip community.
The conference provided an overview of this rapidly evolving field, with a diverse scientific programme covering a wide range of Organ-on-Chip and microphysiological system approaches, technologies, and applications.
Our team was strongly represented throughout the meeting, with four oral presentations by Claudia Teufel, Celina Spangenberger, Madalena Cipriano, and Svenja Wingerter, as well as numerous poster presentations by Ronja Becker, Andre Rosa, Seyma Bektas Tercan, Hanna Vuorenpää (3R-Center Tübingen), Mathias Busek, and Mariana Bento, showcasing our latest research. Claudia presented our Lymphoid-Tissue-on-Chip model, which aims to recapitulate human adaptive immune responses and investigate drug–immune cell interactions in vitro. Madalena showed our Liver-on-Chip platform, focusing on non-invasive, multiparametric optical sensing approaches for mechanistic hepatotoxicity studies. In addition, Svenja presented the Side-View-Chip, a thermoplastic Organ-on-Chip platform that enables microscopy of complex 3D tissues from the bottom, top, and lateral sides. Celina Spangenberger received a Talk Award for her presentation on monitoring dynamic resilience in white adipose tissue under pre- and postmenopausal conditions using Organ-on-Chip technology.
Another highlight was the strong presence of industry and technology providers. Numerous booths showcased new solutions for Organ-on-Chip research, including platforms, devices, analytical technologies, and other tools supporting the development and application of advanced in vitro models. The meeting also highlighted the close connection between the Organ-on-Chip field and the 3R community, emphasizing the potential of these technologies to contribute to the Replacement, Reduction, and Refinement of animal experiments.
Beyond the scientific programme, EUROoCS 2026 offered various opportunities for scientific exchange, networking allowing us to connect with researchers and technology developers from across the growing Organ-on-Chip community. Overall, the meeting was a great opportunity to share our work, discover new approaches and technologies, and exchange ideas with colleagues from academia and industry.
