Dr. Mathias Busek

Senior Scientist

Mathias studied Electrical Engineering and Biomedical Engineering at TU Dresden and worked as a research assistant at the Fraunhofer IWS in Dresden, where he pioneered the TissUse MPS platform in 2010. Later, he did his PhD at TU Dresden on the modelling of oxygen distribution in MPS. His first postdoctoral position was at the Chair of Microsystems at TU Dresden, from which he moved to the University of Oslo in 2020 on a Marie Curie postdoctoral fellowship. During his time in Oslo, he developed a novel pumpless MPS platform that is now broadly used for different applications. With a background in microfabrication, platform design, modeling, and system integration, he will join the uOrgano-Lab as a junior group leader funded by the Carl-Zeiss foundation to develop immunocompetent Cancer-on-Chip models. In his free time, he enjoys time with his family, playing squash, hiking, playing board games, and travelling (particularly in Norway).
