Dr. Jana Kuhn

Postdoc

Jana studied Molecular Medicine (B.Sc. and M.Sc.) at the Ulm University. During her Master's program, she specialized in toxicology and received an Erasmus scholarship to complete her Master's thesis at the Institute of Environmental Medicine at Karolinska Institutet in 2022. As part of the EU-funded nPETS project, she investigated nanoparticle toxicity originating from the subway. She then pursued a PhD at the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT), focusing on cellular responses to copper-induced toxicity in lung and liver cells using multi-omics approaches. Her research further expanded on the effects of nanoparticles and toxic metal compounds. During this time, she also returned to Karolinska Institutet as an Erasmus-funded visiting PhD researcher.
In July 2026, she joined the MicroOrganoLab in Tübingen as a postdoctoral researcher, collaborating with Dr. Julia Rogal's group at the Institute of Neuroanatomy and Developmental Biology at the University of Tübingen. Her work will focus on brain-on-a-chip systems.
Outside of the laboratory, Jana enjoys reading (she describes herself as a bookie), volunteering as a first-aid responder with the German Red Cross and dancing, as well as traveling, particularly to Scandinavia.
